Helping Boys THRIVE Summit™

Friday, October 25, 2019, 8:30am - 3:30pm
Phoenix Christian Preparatory School
1751 W. Indian School Road
PHOENIX

Thank you all for such a successful Helping Boys Thrive Summit!

Hundreds of people came to share, learn, and inspire one another to make systemic change in our communities on behalf of boys.  Everyone agreed that what we do for under-performing and under-resourced boys will also help girls and adults.  We are all in this together!

Here are some comments from participants.  Please support next year’s summit!

Fantastic!

So valuable, keynotes and breakouts were easy to understand, they gave information that can be easily applied to work in any field.

Great speaker, excellent videos and stories and crowd interaction.

So interesting and important, it resonated with me as a mom of a son, a teacher, a counselor, and mental health consultant.

I found myself thinking of so many boys at my school and what we can do to better serve them. Loved the brain scans.

Great presentation and engaging speaker, wonderful insight, extremely informative.

What a message!  Delivered with charisma, poise and passion. Excellent takeaways for me to use as a consultant with teachers.

Very uplifting.   Eye opening statistics about boys, very helpful.  Great activities.

Loved it! I am seeing boys in a whole different light.  Great information and statistics.

Loved the movement and ideas, enjoyed the strategies, practical takeaways, clear concepts to take back to our classrooms tomorrow!

Presenters are so knowledgeable, helpful and thoughtful. Great program, great strategies to make education better for boys.

So important and helpful!  Very informative!

In most of the world, girls and women are doing better than boys and men in both physical and mental health indicators…In most parts of the world, health outcomes among boys and men continue to be substantially worse than among girls and women. Yet this gender-based disparity in health has received little national, regional, or global acknowledgement or attention from health policy-makers or healthcare providers.

Children are our destiny, whether we ourselves give birth to them or not. If we are not working to improve the lives of children, we are living half a life. When we devote ourselves to children, we become whole.
Dr. Michael Gurian

  • 70% of all D’s and F’s go to boys, but only 40 % of the A’s.
  • Boys have fallen behind girls from preschool through graduate school.
  • Boys are four times as likely to be suspended or expelled from early childhood and K-12 environments than girls.
  • 85% of stimulant-addressing medications (like Ritalin) prescribed to U.S. boys.
  • Over the last 20+ years, the reading skills of the average 17-year-old boy have declined.
  • Boys are farther behind girls in reading than girls are behind boys in science and math.
